Comparison of the effects of etomidate and thiopentone on intraocular pressure.

چکیده
The effects of etomidate and thiopentone on intraocular pressure were studied in 50 patients of either sex undergoing routine non-ophthalmic surgery. Both drugs decreased intraocular pressure significantly. However, etomidate induced a significantly greater decrease in intraocular pressure than did thiopentone.

Comparison of the Haemodynamic Effects of Three Different Methods at the Induction of Anaesthesia.
OBJECTIVE Haemodynamic variations are inevitable during induction of anaesthetic drugs. The present study investigates the haemodynamic variations of three different drugs (thiopental, propofol, and etomidate) used for induction of general anaesthesia together with fentanyl. METHODS In a randomized, double-blind study, 45 patients were assigned to one of three groups (n=15 each). Fentanyl 1 μ...
متن کاملStudies on thiopentone and midazolam hemodynamic response during induction of anesthesia in patients with coronary artery disease
Background: Induction of anesthesia in patients that undergo cardiac surgery has more risk than others, because of specific cardiovascular effects of the anesthetic drugs and the preoperative state of these patients, so the hemodynamic stability is very important in these patients. It seems that midazolam have less cardiovascular side effects than thiopentone. In this study, the effects of mid...
متن کاملEffectiveness of sodium thiopentone, propofol, and etomidate as an ideal intravenous anesthetic agent for modified electroconvulsive therapy
INTRODUCTION Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a well-established psychiatric treatment in which seizures are electrically induced in patients for therapeutic effects. ECT can produce severe disturbances in the cardiovascular system and a marked increase in cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure. These cardiovascular changes may be altered using various anesthetic drugs. AIM AND OBJEC...
متن کاملEtomidate for induction of anaesthesia at caesarean section: comparison with thiopentone.
Thirty mothers undergoing elective Caesarean section received thiopentone 3.5 mg kg-1 and 30 received etomidate 0.3 mg kg-1 for induction of anaesthesia. Subsequent management of anaesthesia was identical in both groups. Maternal to fetal base excess differences and the degree of biochemical correlation between mother and infant were more favourable following etomidate than following thiopenton...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Etomidate and Thiopentone in Modified E.c.t
The study was undertaken to assess the value of etomidate in modifed E.C.T. and compare the results with thiopentone sodium. Fifty patients of schizophrenia, depressive illness and manic depressive psychosis requiring E.C.T. were studied with thiopentone and etomidate in two subsequent sittings. The results indicate that induction time is approximately same with both the drugs. The shorter reco...
